What's going on along Firestone Boulevard just west of Birch Street?

You've probably seen the large equipment and digging going on along Firestone Boulevard directly west of Birch Street (CR 11). This is part of a new project that the Town of Firestone is embarking on to add culverts to the Godding Hollow Ditch that runs underneath Firestone Boulevard just west of Birch Street. Five new box culverts will be added this year to help with water overflowing the road. But before we can begin on the culverts, some utility lines are being relocated.

Here are the facts:
  • Installation of five box culverts under Firestone Boulevard in Godding Hollow, east of the Firestone City Center shopping center to help with water overflowing the road.
  • Funding: Multiple sources including Regional Stormwater Impact Fee fund, Metropolitan District Regional Capital Project Contribution fund, North Firestone FURA
  • Contractor: Northern Colorado Constructors
  • Construction: Construction began in April and will run through August on the culverts.
  • Construction will require lane restrictions. In early May, a temporary lane will open on the north side of the road to allow traffic to be shifted for the culvert installation. At that time, a single lane will be open westbound and two lanes eastbound. Drivers should consider using alternative routes.

First Street Paving Project
For those residents traveling in Historic Firestone, the replacement of the water lines on First Street and Grant Avenue have been complete. However, the second part of that phase will include
the replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalk and the asphalt pavement on First Street from Grant Avenue to Buchanan Avenue.

Here are the facts:
  • Funding for the street repairs will be funded through the one-cent sales tax increase passed by residents in November 2013.
  • Contractor: Asphalt Specialties Co.
  • Construction: Will begin after July 5, 2016, due to the construction demand from the contractor and to avoid any interruption of the 4th at Firestone event.

Zip Code 101
Residents of Firestone may often wonder why there are different zip codes throughout the community. Zip codes are set by the United States Postal Service as mail delivery service areas. View a map of zip codes in the Firestone area. Here are some facts according to www.unitedstateszipcodes.org/80504/.
  • Zip codes do NOT always follow city boundaries.
  • Zip codes are mail delivery service areas.
  • Your zip code is NOT based on what city you live in.
  • The primary city name assigned to your zip code is based on the location of the post office facility that delivers mail to you. It may not be the actual city you live in.
  • The U.S. Post Office allows you to use the name of the city you actually live in for the mailing address of your home or business. So in the case of Firestone, residents who live in the 80504 should use Firestone, CO 80504 in their address.
