United Power Presents Capital Credit Refund

United Power Presents
Capital Credit Refund

United Power presented the Town of Firestone with a capital credit refund at their Wednesday night meeting. Bill Meier, a representative from United Power, presented the check to Mayor Peterson, totaling $4,048.00.

United Power is an electric cooperative that provides its members with "at-cost" electric service. At the end of each year, any profits remaining after expenses are returned to members in the form of capital credits. The Town of Firestone received an amount based on its length of membership with United Power and the amount of power used during a set period.

ADA Ramp Replacement Project Approved

During Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Weld County to use Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for an ADA replacement project in the Historic Firestone neighborhood.

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners was awarded CDBG funding in 2023. This allowed for Weld County communities to apply as sub-recipients for funding for public improvements, including adequate public infrastructure, housing preservation, and access to public services.

The Town applied for CDBG funding and was awarded the allocation of $150,000 by the Weld County Commissioners on April 24, 2023, based on the recommendations of the Weld County Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee.

The grant awarded will fund an ADA ramp replacement project within the Historic Firestone neighborhood. Town staff will be required to provide documentation throughout the program to verify the funds are being used in accordance with the CDBG qualifications and standards.

Petition for Annexation Approved

The Board of Trustees approved a resolution accepting a petition for annexation from the Town of Mead. On September 5, 2023, the Town of Mead submitted a Petition for Annexation to the Town of Firestone for a portion of Weld County Road 9.5. The total area proposed for annexation is 3.53 acres and consists of CR 9.5 from CR 28 south to the existing boundary between the Towns of Firestone and Mead.

Acceptance of Petition by the Board of Trustees via Resolution 23-92 does the following:

  • Establishes that the Board of Trustees finds the Petition to be in substantial compliance with the Firestone Development Code and the laws of the State of Colorado; and,
  • Sets a Public Hearing date and time for the CR 9.5 Annexation for October 25, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., in the Firestone Municipal Court and Board Room, 9900 Park Avenue, Firestone, Colorado, 80504.
