Firestone Receives the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The Town of Firestone is pleased to share that last week, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) announced that the Town received GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2023 Budget. The award represents a significant achievement as it reflects the Board of Trustees and town staff's commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. 

"I want to thank and congratulate our Finance Department for achieving this designation.  I'm proud of our efforts to be clear and transparent in preparing, publicizing, and transmitting our budget documents," said Town Manager A.J. Krieger.  "Combined with our constant updates through the budget deliberation process, we give Firestone residents and stakeholders a chance to follow the evolution of the document in almost real-time.  One of the Board of Trustee's Strategic Goals is to Uphold Fiscal Integrity.  Providing a clear, understandable budget document and process is one way we strive to meet that goal,” he added.  “And personally, I'm very proud of Jessica Clanton's and Chris Morrison's efforts.  Their initiative and hard work is what achieved this award, and they should be proud."

In order to receive the budget award, the Town of Firestone had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as: 

• a policy document 
• a financial plan 
• an operations guide 
• a communications device 

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award. 

When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an entity, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the department designated as primarily responsible for achieving the award. Congratulations to the Finance Department for this recognition!
