Irrigation Pump Station Construction
at Mountain Shadows Park
As part of the Town of Firestone’s Water Action Plan, the Town of Firestone and its contractor Sun Valley Constructors Inc., will soon begin constructing a non-potable irrigation well pump station in Mountain Shadows Park (11267 Carbondale St) to be used next year to irrigate the park.
Non-potable water is used nationwide to reduce the pressure on treated water resources, and there are long-term cost savings. As the Town begins to transition parks to non-potable water, the Town will no longer have to pay for treated potable water to irrigate parks and open spaces. Additionally, the plants and vegetation benefit from using non-potable water because there is a higher nutrient value to the local/native water, and it hasn't been through the treatment facility for consumer consumption.
Construction includes building a 10 ft by 12 ft shed, a couple hundred feet of 4-inch pipeline, and electrical and communication lines. Construction will occur in November and December 2023, and depending on the weather, construction may continue into the new year. Construction working hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The new Pump Track and Bike Park, playground, and ballfield use will not be impacted. The only closure required will be the sidewalk in the park between Carbondale St. and the playground. Construction fencing will be used to separate all construction activities from available park spaces. DO NOT CROSS CONSTRUCTION FENCES. Heavy construction equipment will be in use, open trenching, and other typical construction hazards.
