Town of Firestone Announces
New Chief of Police

Firestone, CO – After a nationwide search, the Town of Firestone is proud to announce the selection of David C. Angelo as the new Chief of Police.  

The Town conducted a national recruitment and received 60 applicants, with half coming from 19 states outside of Colorado. The process included two rounds of initial screenings, telephone, and in-person interviews.  Three finalists were interviewed by an external peer panel, a panel of sworn Firestone police officers, the Town Manager, and the Board of Trustees.  From this process, the Town of Firestone selected Angelo to serve the Firestone community. 

“We received a great response to the recruitment and were fortunate to have such a deep, experienced pool from which to select our new Chief.  At every stage of the process, David’s experience and professionalism shone through. We intentionally engaged in a thorough, thoughtful, and comprehensive process and sought the input and expertise of internal and external stakeholders.  There’s no doubt in my mind David is the right person to lead this Police Department into an exciting future”, said Town Manager A.J. Krieger.

“The Board of Trustees is thrilled to have someone of Mr. Angelo’s caliber leading our Police Department,” said Mayor Bobbi Sindelar.  “As a Board, we were impressed by his experience, professionalism, and commitment to earn Firestone residents’ trust.”

David Angelo comes to Firestone after serving the Houston Police Department for 27 years, where he’s spent many years in leadership roles.  Prior to his work for the Houston Police Department, Angelo served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.  Angelo possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Leadership.  

As Police Chief, Angelo will provide leadership and strategic direction to a growing department of 33 sworn officers and four civilian staff members. During the interview process, Angelo demonstrated a strong commitment to staff development and stated that a department’s most valuable asset is its employees.     

Angelo is a proponent of community partnerships and is eager to foster those here in the Firestone community.  “I strongly believe a police department must engage and partner with the community, thereby establishing trust. Without trust, the police cannot effectively do their jobs,” said Angelo.  “Building trust internally within the police department and externally with the community and other stakeholders will be the cornerstone of my leadership practice.”

Angelo’s first day on the job will be January 10, 2022.
