Firestone Public Works
Responds to Icy Roads
During this morning’s rush-hour, a portion of HWY 119 between WCR 3.5 and WCR 7 was closed due to multiple accidents as a result of the icy conditions. CDOT maintains that portion of HWY 119, but because of the weather throughout the region, could not immediately treat that area with material to improve the driving conditions. The Town of Firestone’s Public Works team responded and treated that stretch of roadway. Thank you for your commitment to safety and for helping our neighbors out!
Although freezing drizzle is rare in Colorado, that thin glaze of ice on roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces has kept first responders busy. Please use extreme caution when stepping outside, and avoid travel as much as possible.
Slick and hazardous conditions may remain through this afternoon, especially in shaded areas. Temperatures will stay in the 20s today, and the forecast is calling for light snow this afternoon.
