New Police SUVs Hit the Streets & Axon Update
The Town of Firestone has three new police SUVs that will hit the streets this week. These Tahoes have been updated with new graphics and are ready to serve the community. In addition, these vehicles and all of the Police Department’s vehicles have been outfitted with new in-car cameras from Axon Enterprises, Inc.
In July of 2021, the Board of Trustees approved a purchasing agreement with Axon to provide state-of-the-art technology, innovative tools, and intuitive software to address non-compliance issues and transform the way the Firestone Police Department processes and stores information. As of the end of March, the following products have been updated and installed:
- Replacement of all department body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, interview room camera system, and Tasers.
- A cloud-based crime-scene photo application for all police cell phones, a video redaction assistant, digital evidence tracking and a live-streaming feature for internal use.
- Capability to share digital evidence with the District Attorney’s Office. This will reduce additional staff time for classifying data, recovering data for court cases, and transferring information/cases to the District Attorney’s Office.
With these additions and improvements, the Firestone Police Department continues to show its commitment to providing the highest level of safety services to the Town of Firestone.
