Phone Scam Alert from the Firestone Police Department

The Firestone Police Department took a report that a community member received a phone call from someone stating he was Firestone Police Chief David Angelo. The male caller convinced this individual they had missed court and owed money. The community member stated that the Firestone Police Department’s phone number was spoofed, so the caller I.D. showed the Firestone Police Department’s phone number. After this initial phone call, the community member also received a call from someone stating they were with the F.B.I. and needed to make payment to their office as well. This community member was eventually persuaded to make a payment over the phone to resolve the issue.

Please know that no one from the Firestone Police Department will ever call and attempt to collect money over the phone. In addition, know that if the call sounds suspicious, you may hang up and call the non-emergency number at 720-652-4222 to verify the information being relayed to you on the phone is accurate.
