CR 26 Trail Project

WCR 26 Multi-Use Trail Study Open House

Weld County, in conjunction with the Town of Firestone, the Town of Mead, and the City of Longmont, has begun the design for the Weld County Road 26 Trail Alignment Study.

This project aims to enhance regional connectivity and outdoor recreational opportunities by designing a multi-use trail along WCR 26 that spans from Union Reservoir east to St. Vrain State Park and extends north along WCR 7 to Mead High School in southwest Weld County.

In August 2023, Weld County was awarded $900,000 via a grant from the Denver Regional Council of Governments to fund the trail's design. The county selected Otak Inc. to design the project and coordinate the trail alignment. Weld County, Mead, Longmont, and Firestone each contributed $25,000 to the project.

This trail alignment study is necessary due to the growing demand for multi-use trails in the area. By accommodating activities such as walking, biking, and running, the project will cater to a diverse range of trail users. The study will seek design solutions that provide a safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation and recreation option for trail users.

Open House

Residents are invited to attend a Public Open House on Tuesday, June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mead High School (12750 Co Rd 7, Longmont) to learn more, share thoughts, and meet the project team.
