Scam Alert from the Firestone Police Department
A Firestone resident recently received a voicemail from someone claiming to be "Sergeant Carr with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office," urging an immediate callback regarding "urgent legal matters." The call came from a fraudulent phone number: 970-318-7790.
Thankfully, the resident did the right thing; she called the Firestone Police Department before responding. We advised her to ask the caller for their office address and the supervisor’s name to confirm their identity. When she did, the scammer replied, “I’m the one that’s asking the questions.” She hung up and contacted the real Weld County Sheriff’s Office, who confirmed it was a scam — and that others had received similar calls.
Reminders from the Firestone Police Department:
- Scammers rely on fear, urgency, and intimidation to trick you.
- Slow down.
- Ask questions.
- Never give out personal information until you’ve independently verified who you’re talking to.
If something feels off, trust your instincts and call your local law enforcement agency directly.
