Non-Exclusive Fiber Network Agreement Approved
The Board of Trustees approved Resolution 25-95, a non-exclusive master license agreement with LightGig Communications, LLC (LightGig) to provide internet service through fiber networks. The agreement covers equipment placement in rights-of-way, permit acquisition, and damage restoration according to Town regulations.
LightGig currently provides service in Eaton, Evans, Severance, Timnath, Wellington, West Greeley, and Windsor, and will now begin offering service in Firestone. LightGig plans to collaborate with new developments as infrastructure is being installed to offer additional internet options to customers.
In 2018, the Board of Trustees identified broadband as a community priority by seeking to overturn restrictions imposed by SB-152 on local governments. In April 2018, Firestone voters approved local authority for broadband services. In 2023, the Town was designated as a Broadband Ready Certified Community by the Colorado Broadband Office, recognizing its proactive efforts to promote broadband development.
The Town currently holds Non-exclusive Agreements with Comcast, Hyperfiber, and Intrepid to install and provide fiber networks to Firestone residents.
