Gold Leaf Community Beautification Award

Gold Leaf Community Beautification Award

During the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Rocky Mountain Chapter’s Annual Conference in early October, the Town of Firestone was honored with the Gold Leaf Community Beautification Award. This prestigious award recognizes individuals, organizations, or municipalities that make outstanding contributions to environmental protection, conservation, and beautification, particularly those that promote tree care and preservation.

The Town of Firestone has worked diligently over the past several years to invest in its staff, equipment, parks, and open spaces, and is proud to receive this recognition.

The Water & Community Resources Department, which includes the Parks, Forestry, Irrigation, and Administrative divisions, has built a strong, collaborative team whose daily efforts continue to enhance Firestone’s public spaces. Together, this team has accomplished several key projects that contributed to receiving this award, including:

  • Planting 102 new trees and numerous shrubs and perennials to beautify and strengthen community spaces.
  • Converting high-water-use turf areas into xeriscape and water-wise landscapes, conserving water while enhancing the beauty and biodiversity of parks such as Settlers Park, Sagebrush Park, Stoneridge Park, the Firestone Regional Sports Complex, and areas along the Firestone Trail.
  • Completing Firestone’s first comprehensive tree inventory, now managed through the TreeKeeper system, a valuable tool for tracking, maintaining, and improving the Town’s urban canopy for years to come.

Thank you and congratulations to the entire team for your dedication, collaboration, and vision in creating healthier, more sustainable, and more enjoyable parks and open spaces for everyone who lives, works, and plays in Firestone. Your collective efforts truly embody the spirit of the Gold Leaf Community Beautification Award.
