Firestone will strategically shape how we grow and develop through the Comprehensive Master Plan (“Plan”). More than a guidebook or the strict fulfillment of statutory requirements, the Plan will be a community-driven process that creates the legal justification for government decisions about our future. The Plan will address multiple topics that affect how people experience the built and natural environments, shaping the places where we live, work, and play.

The Firestone Comprehensive Master Plan is a call to action that guides and propels investment and transformation in the community for the next 20 years and will replace the 2013 Master Plan. The new Plan is a blueprint for the town’s next phase, a statement on the community’s character, and a guiding light for determining the community’s goals and aspirations for the future.

How are we taking the pulse of the community?

The Plan kicked off in October 2022 and will conclude in April 2024. We are currently in Phase 3 and are building on what the team learned in Phases 1 and 2 of the process. During those early phases, the Town of Firestone’s feedback shaped the four guiding principles mentioned above. From those, the project team articulated the vision that underpins each one. This graphic provides an overview of the planning process.

We will continue to request feedback on plan components and recommendations from multiple channels. The public engagement program has been designed to hear feedback from multiple community voices. For Phases 3 through 5 of the project, this will include the following:

  • Up to 15 stakeholder interviews and/or small focus groups
  • Up to 3 “pop-up” intercept events 
  • 1 dedicated open house 
  • 1 working session of the Board of Trustees 
  • 1 working session of the Planning Commission (may combine with Trustees to hold a joint working session) 
  • Online comment options, including 1 survey and 1 comment opportunity on open house materials.

What have we heard so far?

The Town of Firestone is at a crossroads regarding growth and development. We are a growing town with older and newer neighborhoods living side-by-side. How do we ensure our future is sustainable and we are creating attractive, vibrant neighborhoods? Where should development versus preservation happen, and how can they both best serve the community? Should we continue our piecemeal approach to planning on a case-by-case basis or develop a comprehensive strategy for Firestone’s future? These are the core questions the Town, and its residents must grapple with as we plan for the next 20 years and beyond. 

We have listened to input from the one-on-one and small group conversations as much as groups with more participants and leaders like the Board of Trustees. Residents and leaders expressed their appreciation for assets like Town-sponsored events, a sense of community, and access to nature, and desired improvements like more transportation options, nearby services, and amenities. 

Community Vision Framework

This document articulates the community’s vision, which took shape through numerous conversations with our residents. This collective vision embodies the ideas and aspirations expressed by our community for its growth over the next 20 years. This serves as the foundation for the Firestone Comprehensive Plan (“Plan”). The vision is intended to safeguard and elevate the elements that contribute to Firestone’s unique sense of place while planning for growth. Balancing these priorities in the Plan will positively contribute to the Town’s quality of life and overall livability.

Vision

Firestone aspires to become the ultimate community of choice, seamlessly blending a network of vibrant community hubs, inviting residential neighborhoods, and expansive open spaces. Our vision is to preserve our charming small-town atmosphere while introducing a diverse array of exciting attractions and services that will not only enrich the lives of our existing residents but also attract new residents and businesses with our exceptional offerings.




How can you get involved? 

Throughout the process, residents will have multiple opportunities to provide feedback.  When details are available for public involvement opportunities, it will be shared on all of the communication channels for the Town, including this webpage.
