West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes
Detected in Weld County
Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment informed the Town of Firestone that West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes have been detected in Weld County in two mosquito pools from Zone 2 and Zone 3 in the last couple of weeks, but that there are no human cases of West Nile virus at this time. The Town of Firestone is located within Zone 3.
The Town of Firestone has contracted with Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) to provide the Town with mosquito management: larval (water treatments), adult mosquito surveillance and trapping, and fogging for the 2022 season. VDCI provides the Town of Firestone with weekly trap data, and that information is posted online at
www.firestoneco.gov/mosquitocontrol.
The Town of Firestone would like to remind residents of the 4D's of mosquito control:
- Drain - remove standing water from your property and do not over water your lawns
- Dress - wear loose long pants and sleeves to prevent mosquito bites
- Dawn and Dusk - avoid being outside during peak mosquito activity
- Defend - wear EPA approved repellents including DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus and IR3535
