Mayor's Award Presentation

At the start of Wednesday night's meeting, Pack 341 presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance with the Board of Trustees and those in attendance. After their presentation, Mayor Pro Tem Jimenez presented Pack 341 a Mayor's Award for their community service work picking up trash and debris on a vacant commercial lot near King Soopers.

Mental Health Month Proclamation

During Wednesday night's meeting, Trustee Don Conyac read a proclamation celebrating May as Mental Health Month in Firestone. National Mental Health Month is observed every May to raise awareness about behavioral health, recovery and hope, the importance of prevention, and the factors contributing to mental wellness.

One in every four people is affected by mental illness, with more Weld County residents having reported mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions than in years past. Firestone residents can find recovery through a variety of outpatient, residential, and critical walk-in crisis support options through Weld County's community mental health center, North Range Behavioral Health. North Range is committed to preventing hospitalizations, incarcerations, trauma, suicides, and substance use disorder through collaboration with community health centers, school districts, human services, law enforcement, United Way, and many others.

The Firestone Board of Trustees encourages the community to commit to increasing awareness and understanding of behavioral health and understanding the need for appropriate and accessible services for all citizens.

National Police Week Proclamation

During Wednesday night's meeting, Trustee Doug Sharp read a proclamation celebrating May 14 – 20, 2023 as National Police Week in Firestone. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and that week as National Police Week. The purpose of the proclamation was to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.

The Firestone Police Department would like to recognize and pay tribute to Firestone Officer Richard E. Hart, who at the age of 34, died on October 18, 1982, from injuries received two days earlier while attempting to contact a driver leaving the scene of an accident. On May 15th, and every other day, we remember his courage, humility, and sacrifice. Read his complete story and view links to local law enforcement memorial locations here.

Firestone Board Recognizes
Scholarship Recipients

During the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, May 10, the Board of Trustees and Mrs. Betty Heath recognized two students from Firestone for the George E. Heath Community Scholarship: Kyra Haan and Nolan Hoffman. Both students will receive $1,250 to go towards educational expenses this fall.

Both of these students, who are graduating in a few short weeks, have demonstrated their academic excellence, showed involvement in many extracurricular activities, stayed involved with community service hours, and even had time to hold part-time jobs.

Congratulations to Kyra, Nolan, and all the graduating students living in Firestone!

Community Survey Update

During Wednesday night's meeting, Town Staff updated the Board of Trustees about the upcoming Community Survey. On May 30, mailings will be sent inviting the public to participate in the Town of Firestone's first Community Survey. The survey will be available online and will be mailed to each household in early June. The survey collection will remain open until mid-July.

The Board of Trustees encourages all households to participate. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in shaping Firestone's future. The survey results will be a powerful tool to help guide policy direction for the Firestone Board of Trustees and help prioritize projects within the Town. In addition, the Town looks forward to continuing to use this platform to ask follow-up questions and engage with the public.
