Community Survey Results PresentationDuring Wednesday night, a representative from Polco provided the Board of Trustees with an overview of results from the National Community Survey that was conducted this spring. Randomly selected households were invited to participate in the survey. The survey collection occurred between early March and mid-April of 2025. This is the second time the Town of Firestone has conducted a National Community Survey, with the first occurring in 2023. Highlights of Results & Key Findings- Firestone’s quality of life is strong, with both the overall quality of life and the Town as a place to live receiving high marks. Similarly, approximately 8 in 10 community members indicated they were very or somewhat likely to recommend living in Firestone to others and stated they would remain in the Town for the next five years.
- Safety remains a notable strength, with nearly all residents indicating they feel safe in their neighborhood and in Firestone’s downtown/commercial area during the day. Perceptions of safety from property crime received ratings above the custom benchmark in comparison to other Fort Range communities and similar populations, while feelings of safety from fire, flood, or natural disasters showed an upward trend from 2023.
- Amid a national decline in satisfaction with local governance, Firestone’s ratings remained stable, showing upward trends in areas such as keeping residents informed about community issues and encouraging resident involvement, both receiving positive ratings from approximately half of the respondents. Additionally, around 6 in 10 rated the overall direction of the Town positively.
- Residents of Firestone highlight several potential focus areas in the local economy. Although the variety of business and service establishments has improved since the 2023 survey, some economy-related aspects received lower ratings than national and custom benchmarks, such as the vibrancy of the downtown/commercial area, employment opportunities, and shopping options.
The survey results will serve as a powerful tool to guide policy direction for the Firestone Board of Trustees and prioritize projects within the Town. Additionally, the Town looks forward to continuing to utilize this platform to ask follow-up questions and engage with the public. 2025 ResultsA report of the survey results was provided by Polco and is available to view as a PDF or an Online Dashboard.

Replacement Playground Equipment Contract ApprovedDuring Wednesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a contract with Altitude Recreation Inc. to replace the playground equipment at Prairie Ridge Park near Prairie Ridge Elementary School. The current playground equipment at Prairie Ridge Park is 20 years old and has worn down, creating safety hazards such as rusted parts, weakened materials, and outdated design features. The new equipment will meet current safety regulations and provide inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities. While the playground equipment is being replaced, the park will be closed. It is anticipated that the work will begin this summer. Once a work timeline has been determined, communication will be shared with the community.

Pumptrack Resurfacing Contract ApprovedDuring Wednesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Caraveo Construction Inc. to resurface the Bike Park and Pump Track located in Mountain Shadows Park. This work will include resurfacing the track with asphalt and replacing the dirt to create a smoother, safer, and more durable riding surface for children. The asphalt will provide a consistent and stable terrain, reducing the risk of falls caused by uneven or loose ground. Compared to other materials, asphalt requires less maintenance and withstands weather conditions more effectively, ensuring the playground remains functional and safe year-round. It is anticipated that the work will begin this summer. Once a work timeline has been determined, communication will be shared with the community.
