STAR Award Presentation During Wednesday night’s meeting, Sergeants Curt Bringle and Mike Cionek and Police Officers Mike Ream, Mike Gunter, and Branden Minter were presented with a STAR Award. The STAR (Special Thanks and Recognition) Award is an employee recognition program that rewards employees for demonstrating exceptional service and exceeding expectations in their work performance. On September 9, 2024, officers from the Firestone Police Department showcased remarkable bravery and professionalism during the pursuit and capture of three suspects involved in a violent crime. The incident began when officers attempted to apprehend suspects in a stolen vehicle, which resulted in one officer being struck as the suspects fled, leading to a high-speed chase that ended when they crashed into a concrete embankment. After fleeing on foot, two suspects barricaded themselves in a drainage tunnel. The officers quickly secured the area, ensuring public safety while coordinating with neighboring departments to apprehend the suspects over 45 tense minutes without further incident. During the standoff, one suspect taunted officers and refused to comply with commands, leading officers to use a less-lethal projectile to de-escalate the situation. This action prompted his eventual surrender. After the suspects were taken into custody, a thorough search uncovered critical evidence, including disassembled parts of a handgun and a significant amount of fentanyl pills, linking the suspects to a recent homicide. The professionalism, teamwork, and strategic handling of this incident highlight the officers’ dedication to public safety, making them worthy of receiving the Town of Firestone STAR Award. Baseline Agency Growth Plan AdoptedThe Board of Trustees adopted the Town’s first Agency Growth Plan during Wednesday night's meeting. During the Board Retreat in September, Human Resources presented this plan in detail and discussed its use and the process of creating it. This plan will guide and coordinate the recruitment and retention of Town Staff, particularly during the budget process every year. As current and future workforce needs are identified, this tool will aid the Town in increasing staff capacity to service increased commercial and residential development. This document will be reviewed annually and revised as needed. This baseline was established with assistance from Department Directors, who created and forecasted their department’s future needs based on incremental population increases. The data collected from other municipalities is a comparative analysis of the workforce employed by larger populated communities and provides insight into service and workforce needs based on population growth. The data pulled for this comparison was extracted from each community's 2024 budget documents.
