The water treatment plant is designed to facilitate expansion to an ultimate capacity of 5 million gallons per day (MGD). It will be developed in phases for expansion as the population and water demand grows.  The first phase will construct a treatment capacity of 1.5 MGD, and 1.25 MGD is currently dedicated to supplying treated water for Firestone's immediate needs. The plant capacity will be expanded to 2.25 MGD in the second phase with added infrastructure to reach the 5 MGD capacity.

The treatment plant will contain pre-treatment, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis filtration, and disinfection technologies, along with all the required tanks, pumps, and other infrastructure necessary to operate the plant.  The treatment plant technologies were selected to treat St. Vrain Creek alluvial groundwater sources or St. Vrain Creek surface water sources.  The treatment plant is located in the northern area of Firestone near Colorado Blvd and Zinnia Ave.
