1. How did you get my address?

The National Research Center, through Polco, is contracted with the Town of Firestone to conduct this survey. Your address was included in a list of all addresses from the post office. This is a standard service offered by the post office. Your personal information is never shared with anyone, not even the Town of Firestone.

2. I received your survey, and while I own the property that it was sent to, I don’t live there. What should I do?

The resident of the property should complete the survey.

3. I received the survey, but I live outside of the Town of Firestone. Should I complete the survey?

No. This survey is intended for Firestone residents only. Please discard the survey and any additional mailings associated with this project that you receive. While the Town and Polco worked to limit the list of addresses to those within Firestone’s municipal boundaries, some mailing addresses may have been unintentionally included.

4. If I filled out the survey online when I first received the postcard, should I fill out the paper survey?

No, please don’t fill the survey out twice. Thank you for participating!

5. I did not receive a survey, but I would like to share my opinion. How can I participate?

An open participation online survey will be available on the Town’s website between June 29^th and July 13^th. If there are additional adults in your household who would like to participate, you are encouraged to take the open participation survey online.

6. What is the purpose of requesting the person who most recently had a birthday complete the survey?

This is so that we can choose in an unbiased way a person within each household to complete the survey. While it may seem a bit strange, using the “birthday method” is a simple way to select an adult from within each household without permitting bias in our results. This way, we ensure the results are representative of our community as a whole.

7. Can we rely on the results of the survey?

Yes. The Town of Firestone Community Survey is a scientific survey conducted by Polco and the National Research Center (NRC). NRC has over 20 years of conducting survey research for local governments. The survey has a statistically valid margin of error of +/- 3%. With this margin of error, you may conclude that when 60% of survey respondents report that a particular service is “excellent” or “good” somewhere between 57% and 63% of all Firestone residents are likely to feel the same way.

8. What will be done with the results?

This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in shaping Firestone's future. The survey results will be a powerful tool to help guide policy direction for the Firestone Board of Trustees and Town Staff and help prioritize projects within the Town.

Information obtained through the survey will assist with:

• Informing budget, land use, and strategic planning decisions
• Measuring government performance
• Assessing support for local policies
• Monitoring trends in resident opinion
• Benchmarking service ratings
• Communicating with residents

9. Why am I asked for my email and ZIP code after completing the survey online?

By entering your email address and ZIP code, you can create an account and find out when we post a new question or survey on Polco. The Town plans to use the Polco platform to ask follow-up questions to the community survey and periodically ask for your input on important issues. Creating an account is optional and is NOT REQUIRED to complete the survey. Email addresses are not sold or shared with other parties for any reason, ever; not even our own staff and elected officials have access to this information.

2. HOW CAN I LEARN ABOUT THE CANDIDATES?

The Town of Firestone invited all eligible candidates to complete a Candidate Profile. All profiles received have been posted online for voters to review. The profiles received have not been edited. 

3. WHEN DOES MY BALLOT NEED TO BE TURNED IN?

All ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day – April 5th, 2022.  

4. WHERE AND HOW DO I TURN IN MY BALLOT?

After you receive and complete your ballot, put your ballot in its secrecy sleeve and enclose it in the provided envelope.  Once you have sealed your envelope you may mail it, drop it off or bring it in.

• MAIL IT: Include proper postage of a first-class or forever stamp on the provided envelope and mail it.  If you have not mailed your ballot by Tuesday, March 29th, we encourage you to drop it off or bring it in. 
• DROP IT OFF: Save a stamp and drop it off at the 24-hour drop-box located at the front of Town Hall at 9950 Park Ave, Firestone, CO 
• BRING IT IN: Bring your ballot into the Voter Service Center (9900 Park Avenue - Court Room/Board Room) any time on April 1st and 4th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and April 5th from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.  The Voter Service Center will be closed on Saturday, April 2nd, and Sunday, April 3rd. 
   

5. WHAT IS THE VOTER SERVICE CENTER? WHEN IS IT OPEN?

The Voter Service Center has election judges available to register eligible voters, provide ballot replacements and is open for ballot drop-off.

Voter Service Center Dates/Hours: 

• Friday, April 1st from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 
• Monday, April 4th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm 
• Tuesday, April 5th from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. 

6. WHAT CAN I DO ON ELECTION DAY, APRIL 5th ?

At the Voter Service Center (9900 Park Avenue - Court Room/Board Room), from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. voters can come in to get a replacement ballot or update/register to vote. Voters can drop off their ballot on Election Day in the Voter Service Center or in the exterior dropbox no later than 7:00 p.m. 

7. I’M NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

Yes! Eligible residents can come to the Voter Service Center (9900 Park Avenue - Court Room/Board Room) to register and receive a ballot. Or, voters can register online at www.govotecolorado.com. 

The Voter Service Center (9900 Park Avenue - Court Room/Board Room) will be open the following days/times:

• April 1st from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
• April 4th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
• April 5th from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

8. WHAT IF I DIDN’T GET MY BALLOT? MY BALLOT IS DAMAGED, NOW WHAT?

Registered voters who do not receive a ballot in the mail may request a replacement by completing this form and submitting it to townclerk@firestoneco.gov. If residents email a replacement form, a ballot can be mailed to voters until Monday, March 21st. 

Additionally, voters can come to the Voter Service Center (9900 Park Avenue - Court Room/Board Room) to complete a replacement form and receive a ballot on the following days: 

•  April 1st from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
• April 4th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
• April 5th from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

9. WHAT IF I MAKE A MISTAKE ON MY BALLOT?

You can make the correction on your ballot and clearly indicate your choice. Election judges are trained to review every ballot to make sure your votes are counted as you intend.

10. WHERE IS MY SECRECY SLEEVE?

There is no secrecy sleeve needed. The process for opening your ballot with teams of sworn election judges protects the privacy of your ballot.

11. DO YOU COUNT EVERY BALLOT, OR ONLY IF THE RACE IS CLOSE?

Your election judges count every eligible ballot and give voters every opportunity to have their vote counted accurately.

12. WHAT IS THE THRESHOLD FOR A MANDATORY RECOUNT?

If the difference between the candidate receiving the highest number of votes and the candidate receiving the second-highest number of votes (or yes/no for ballot measures) is less than ½ of 1% of the total votes cast for the candidate with the highest number of votes, there is a mandatory recount.  

Example 1:    Candidate A receives 12,738 votes   Candidate B receives 12,541 votes = Difference of 197 Votes    ½ of 1% of Candidate A’s total =12,738 x 0.005 = Difference of 63 Votes   Result: NO Mandatory Recount

Example 2:   Candidate A receives 200 votes   Candidate B receives 199 votes =  Difference of 1 Vote    ½ of 1% of Candidate A’s total = 200 x 0.005 = Difference of 1 Vote      Result: Mandatory Recount

 

How long will a recount take?  

A mandatory or requested recount must be completed no later than the 15^th day after the election, April 20, 2022.    

If there is a recount where will it physically take place?  

Any recounts will be conducted in the ballot tabulation room at the Police Department and Municipal Court building.

1. What do I do if I see trash or junk piled up somewhere?

Accumulations of litter, junk, and debris are not allowed on property anywhere in the town. 

For a complete list of what’s included under the definition of Junk and Litter, refer to the Firestone Municipal Code. (Firestone Municipal Code 8.03.020 & 8.03.230)

If you’re concerned about a location with litter, junk, or debris on a property, please contact the Neighborhood Services Division.

If you are given notice for litter prohibited, you will generally have 10 days to remove the litter from your property or you may be cited.

Once a year, Firestone residents can bring unwanted household debris to Firestone’s Public Works facility at 7500 Pine Cone Ave (WCR 20).  Click here for more information on Firestone’s Clean Up Day.

2. At what point is grass or weeds considered “high” and in need of mowing?

Grass and/or weeds over 8 inches in height is considered “high” and will need to be cut. Noxious weeds of any height are prohibited.

3. Am I responsible for trimming my trees or shrubs that overhang beyond my property line?

Yes, homeowners are responsible for ensuring branches of any tree, shrub or other vegetation are trimmed to clear 14 feet above any street or alley or 10 feet above any public sidewalk. Trees and shrubs must also be trimmed to prevent the obstruction of any driver’s view and the blockage of street lights or street signs.

4. Can I post signs around Town?

 Example: signs advertising a garage sale or an open house.

No, signs or banners may not be placed on any public street, public right-of-way or public property without a permit.  Firestone Municipal Code 12.12.020

5. How many chickens and roosters may I have on my property?

Each single-family detached dwelling unit on a lot greater than 4,500 square feet, may have 6 chickens on their property.  You must obtain a backyard chicken permit from Planning and Development if you choose to have chickens.  Roosters are not permitted.

Note: Many homeowner association bylaws do not allow chickens or poultry of any kind. Applicants should check their HOA bylaws to confirm that chicken hens are permitted prior to filling out a Town application.

6. Are pet licenses required for residents living in Firestone?

Yes, pet licenses are required for dogs and cats.  For further information, click here for the Animal Licensing Page. For concerns about animal-related issues, please contact the Community Services Unit by calling non-emergency police dispatch at 720-652-4222.

7. Do I need a permit to have a garage sale?

No, the Town does not generally require a permit for yard sales.  A resident may have a maximum of 7 days of garage or yard sales per calendar year.

8. What can I do about my neighbor’s barking dog?

Barking dog complaints are investigated by the Community Services Unit.  To report a concern, call non-emergency police dispatch at 720-652-4222. 

Note: The dog must be barking in an excessive, continuous, or untimely fashion to be considered a disturbance.  Read More: Firestone Municipal Code 6.05.030

9. Do I need a building permit for home improvement projects?

Many home improvement projects require building permits. Some projects that may require a permit include: decks, finishing basements, electrical, HVAC, roofing, siding, and sheds.

10. What can be done about an abandoned vehicle parked on the street?

Vehicles that are parked further than 50 feet from the owner’s property for longer than 24 hours may be considered abandoned. Inoperable or junk vehicles must be stored in a completely enclosed structure and may not be parked on public streets. Restoration of hobby vehicles must be done in either a completely enclosed garage or a side or back yard behind a solid fence at least 6 feet tall.

• Concerns about vehicles parked on public streets should be directed to the Community Services Unit by calling non-emergency police dispatch at 720-652-4222.
• Concerns about vehicles parked on private property may be directed to the Neighborhood Services Unit by email at nso@firestoneco.gov or (303) 833-3291 Ext. 5516.

If you are given notice for a junk vehicle on your property, you will have 10 days to remove the vehicle or you may be cited for having an abandoned, junk, or inoperable vehicle on your property.

11. What are the hours permitted for construction-related noise?

Permitted construction, maintenance, or repair activities in residentially-zoned areas are allowed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. 

Noise complaints should be directed to the Police Department. For non-emergency police dispatch, call 720-652-4222.

12. Am I responsible for clearing the snow and ice from the sidewalks by my house?

Yes, residents are responsible for removing the snow and ice from the public sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after the last measurable accumulation. Snow removal complaints should be directed to the Community Services Unit by calling non-emergency police dispatch, call 720-652-4222.

13. I received a notice regarding a violation on my property; what do I do?

Follow the instructions given on the notice to correct the violation by the required date. If you do not understand the violation or have questions, call the officer whose name and phone number is provided on the notice.

Requesting additional time: If you cannot correct the violation by the date required on your notice, you must contact the issuing officer before that date. The officer will review your case to determine if there are any options for assistance or a possible extension. Extensions are not guaranteed but may be granted when need can be demonstrated.

If you choose not to comply: Further actions may be taken including administrative citations, summons to court, or abatement by the Town with the cost billed to the property owner.

14. How do I know if a property is located within the Town limits or County?

There are several ways to verify whether an address is located within Town boundaries.

1. An interactive Town Limit map is available on the Town’s website: https://www.firestoneco.gov/176/Maps-Development-Plans.
2. When initiating a complaint in the Citizenserve online portal, the system will attempt to validate the address entered as a Firestone address. If the address falls within Town boundaries, you will receive a “verified” message. If the address falls outside of Town boundaries, you will receive a message stating that the address cannot be found, and asking whether you’d like to proceed.

1. What do I do if I have a street, park, or water emergency during or after hours?

To report Town street, park, or water emergencies or issues, please call Firestone Town Hall during business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 303-833-3291, or after hours call dispatch at 720-652-4222.

2. Where do I call for utility line locates?

Call 811 to schedule utility line locates or visit www.call811.com/. However, water line locates within the Town of Firestone should be requested by calling Public Works at 303-833-3544.

3. Where do I dispose of hazardous waste?

4. Where is the local landfill to dispose of trash?

The nearest landfill for disposing of trash is the Front Range Landfill, which is permitted by the State of Colorado to operate as municipal solid waste landfills.
